The Phone 03:20
I was embarrassed to feel broken by your dress and by the song Wake up to the phone Something greater than the distance between me and where you are reminds me that I have no control I just want to try and make it harder to tell where I end and where you begin I can see you under streetlight I can see you under me Anyway, you can only be real and in some way I just want to try and make it harder to tell where I end and where you begin

I went back to the country with light in mind Seeking help from my mothers sermon Bringing light to the details that I don’t care the mention I spoke your name by the four way and Shawcross hits me full on the temple I pass Fernbank and I pass Cossins and you’re everywhere I went back to the country with light in mind Feeling strange at the jamboree I keep moving like technology When you waltz around my liver you seem so debonair I told you twice, I don’t want to be Cash for Chloe I don’t want to throw salt over your shoulder I don’t want to drink you like tequila I don’t want to use the old sense of the word But you’ve been tainting my fathers name and you tied me to the sea and your blind spots alway made an exception for me

I'm Not Tied 01:28
I can’t begin to describe the violence when I stumble over passing pictures I just catch them where they fall When I’m walking out at night all the shapes I see it’s never anything good It’s just shadows trying to do their own thing But they just make me jealous that I’m not tied
5.
Mercy's Cut 04:50
Mercy’s cut and I’m leaving Mercy’s cut, I’ve only got eye’s over you but you trespass all over me when there’s a place I’m due Mercy’s cut and I’m leaving Mercy’s cut, spare me the fuck Trying to make sense of a stranger’s semi-detachable shower head Mercy’s cut and I’m leaving It’s a Picton street counter attack every time I close my eyes every time

about

Bristol-based Bingo Fury releases his debut EP ‘Mercy’s Cut’ via Practise Music. Drawing from his already established sophisticated yet raw sound, ‘Mercy’s Cut’ scatterguns between stark, romantic noir ballads, frantic no-wave, and polished jazz.

Opening track ‘The Phone’, is a beautifully wistful love song: ‘I just want to try to make it harder to tell where you end and I begin’. Lead single ‘Underfall Yard’ swells with fervour, with Bingo Fury’s world-weary vocals sitting atop off-kilter jazz and twitchy cornet solos. Track three, ‘Cash For Chloe’, is an electrifying fusion of wonky rhythms and romantic, pastoral lyricism, clattering into an knee-jerk improvised coda. Clocking in at just one and a half minutes, ‘I’m Not Tied’ is another poignant piano ballad, while ‘Mercy’s Cut’ ends the EP with a stirring closing-time jazz. Filled with rich, cinematic allure, the EP is both beautiful and unsettling and underlines Bingo Fury’s complete abundance of compositional ideas.
