about
One of the UK avant-garde’s most exciting new voices, Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist Bingo Fury is back with new single ‘Power Drill’, out now via The state51 Conspiracy.
Known for creating wholly new and experimental sonic worlds, ‘Power Drill’ effortlessly blends Steve Reich-esque piano arpeggios with a furious, punk-infused guitar frenzy. A testament to his unparalleled ability to defy convention, the track was recorded in a local church on the outskirts of Bristol that has never been used for recording music before. The echoes of this space are woven into ‘Power Drill’, adding an ethereal dimension to an otherwise turbulent and complex composition.
This track was written by Bingo Fury on a mobile app, while on the road working as a touring sound engineer. On the creation of the song, Bingo Fury shares: “Power Drill was conceived on iPhone-Garage Band while travelling through Italy in April 22’. Around this time I’d decided that using Atonality & Dissonance in my songs felt like a cop out way of making something arresting. Power Drill is a first attempt at trying to make something abrasive while keeping melody & tonality intact, which doesn’t come so naturally to me.”
lyrics
The water’s all wrong
State of the art rain
for my borrowed pain
But I’ve got to be clean
Deceit rings out
over digitised mountains
It hurts like a power drill
But I’ve got to be clean
